The Images section in the editor lets you add logos, objects, products, or any visual elements you want to include in your thumbnails. This guide shows you how to reference images effectively.
How Image Referencing Works
When you add an image to the editor:
- Upload the image - Click "Add Image" and select your file
- Auto-analysis - The AI analyzes your image and generates a description
- Name assignment - Each image gets a name (e.g., "Image 1")
- Use in prompt - Reference the image name in your prompt
The system prompt tells the AI model what each image name represents, using the auto-generated description. This is how the AI knows exactly which image you're referring to.
Adding Images
Upload a New Image
- Go to the Images section in the editor
- Click Add Image
- Select an image file (PNG, JPG, or WebP)
- Wait for the upload and analysis to complete
You can also paste images directly into the prompt textarea using Ctrl+V (or Cmd+V on Mac).
From Your Gallery
Previously uploaded images are saved to your gallery:
- Click the Gallery tab in the Images section
- Select any previously uploaded image
- It will be added to your current generation
Naming Your Images
By default, images are named "Image 1", "Image 2", etc. You can rename them for easier reference:
- Double-click on the image name
- Type a descriptive name (e.g., "red logo", "try icon", "product shot")
- Press Enter to save
Why rename? Descriptive names make your prompts clearer and help the AI understand your intent.
Referencing Images in Your Prompt
Use the exact same name in your prompt that appears in the Images section:
Example 1: Replacing a Logo
If you have an image named "red square":
Replace the orange logo next to the text with red square
The AI will:
- Identify the orange logo in your reference image
- Replace it with your uploaded "red square" image
Example 2: Adding an Object
If you have an image named "try icon":
Add try icon in the bottom right corner
Example 3: Multiple Images
With "logo A" and "logo B":
Replace the left icon with logo A and the right icon with logo B
Best Practices
Use Descriptive Names
| Bad Name | Good Name |
|---|
| Image 1 | red logo |
| Image 2 | cursor icon |
| Image 3 | macbook product |
Be Specific in Your Prompt
Describe the element you want to replace:
- Bad: "Replace the logo with red square"
- Good: "Replace the orange logo next to the 'nouveau' text with red square"
Use High-Quality Images
For best results:
- Use clear, high-resolution images
- Prefer images with transparent backgrounds for logos
- Avoid blurry or pixelated images
Understanding the Process
When you generate a thumbnail with referenced images:
- The AI receives your prompt
- It sees each image with its name and auto-generated description
- It matches the name in your prompt to the correct image
- It incorporates that image as specified
This is why using the exact same name is crucial. The AI uses both the name and description to understand what you want.
Keyboard Shortcut
Once your prompt is ready:
- Press Cmd + Enter (Mac) or Ctrl + Enter (Windows) to generate immediately
Image Limits
There's a maximum of 10 total images across all sources:
- Person images (from selected persons)
- Inspiration images (from style references)
- Uploaded reference images
- Editing image (when editing a thumbnail)
Troubleshooting
Image Not Being Used
If the AI ignores your image:
- Check the name matches exactly (case-sensitive)
- Be more specific about where to place it
- Describe what the image is in your prompt
Wrong Image Used
If the AI uses the wrong image:
- Rename your images to be more distinct
- Add clarifying descriptions in your prompt
Summary
- Upload images via "Add Image" or paste directly

- Rename images with descriptive names (double-click)
- Reference the exact name in your prompt
